This is a guest post by TheWild1. He blogs about finance on TheWildInvestor. Over the past holiday season, I spent hours discussing my sites and monetizing schemes with relatives and friends. I must have explained the whole system dozens of times. To the point where others where filling in things I left out. Anyway when I got time to show them the actual product, some found the topic interesting, while others acted like they were reading another language. I was usually met with the response: “I’m sure this would be great if I knew about stocks.” For the record, my main site is a finance blog. Of course, I just shook my head and smiled; however, is that what I want to hear from anybody? Was I unknowingly cutting out my potential reader base? So I came up with a little pyramid that better illustrates this.

Create an Alerts Folder in Your RSS Reader
Back in October 2006 Google started a late round of PageRank updates. Most webmasters and bloggers were waiting eagerly for that to happen, and as soon as I saw some movement on online forums I wrote a blog post about it. It was titled Google Changing the PageRank Algorithm?. It was one of the very first articles on the web covering the possible changes and penalties related to Google’s PR algorithm, and since the topic was hot, many people wrote about it afterwards, linking to my article.

Open Discussion: What is Your Favorite Web Hosting?
Like it or not, web hosting is a vital part of any website. Reliable and fast hosting will give your readers a much better user experience, and they will be more likely to return in the future. Slow hosting with frequent downtimes, on the other hand, will not only annoy your visitors, but it might also harm your search engine rankings over the long term. In the past I have already written about how to choose a good web hosting, and personally I believe that bandwidth, disk space and price are secondary factors. Why? Well, it is very hard to burn even 20G monthly with a blog, so you are just kidding yourself if you think you will make a great deal by purchasing a hosting plan with 3 Terabytes of monthly transfer allowed. The same point applies to disk space. In reality choosing a plan that offers such huge bandwidth and disk space limits is usually a bad idea per se. That is because in order to be able to offer that, a web hosting needs to jam hundreds if not thousands of sites on a single server. And when you do that you can say goodbye to reliability. I have already been a client of many different companies, and here is my feedback:

3 Ad Server Options for Bloggers
advertising is a major revenue source for many blogs (and the only revenue source for some). If you sell ad space on your blog, I’m sure you have realized that it can be a time-consuming activity. Keeping your ad slots filled, changing the links and images each month, and communicating with advertisers are all necessary functions if you are monetizing your blog by selling direct ads. There are a number of different tools that can help you to streamline this process. Some are free and some are not. Even those that cost money may prove to be extremely affordable if they can help you to save time and make the process more efficient. In this article will take a look at 3 options for bloggers.
